At the end of 2015 we mentioned the English-Afrikaans/Afrikaans-English explanatory dictionary of the Centre for Legal Terminology in African Languages (CLTAL) that was published in March 2015, and of which one of our members, Mariëtta Alberts, was a co-author. The title of this dictionary is: Legal Terminology: Criminal law, Procedure and Evidence/ Regsterminologie: Straf-, Strafproses- en Bewysreg (ISBN 9781485107163).
The dictionary contains, among other things, exhaustive explanatory notes, a synopsis of Latin terms and phrases with their English and Afrikaans translations, as well as the alphabetical part of the dictionary, consisting of 635 pages.
CLTAL received their first award for this dictionary when it won the dictionary category of the 2015 SATI* Prize for Outstanding Dictionaries. The editorial team, i.e. Prof. Giel Prinsloo, Dr Mariëtta Alberts and Prof. Nina Mollema received the prize on 1 October 2015 at the SATI triennial Conference at Emperors Palace, Kempton Park.
On 9 September 2016, the dictionary was awarded its second prestigious prize: The Woordwystoekenning (the Prestigious Word-Wise award) by the Afrikaanse Taal- en Kultuurvereniging (ATKV**) was presented to the legal dictionary as the best dictionary of 2015.
